Senior Pastor | Rev. Charles L. White, Jr.

2015 has been a year of transition for us here at Gordon Memorial United Methodist Church that has presented a variety of challenges for us to work through. These challenges are good in the sense that they provide a great context for God to show His power and faithfulness – and He certainly did. I am thankful for the opportunity to use the gifts and experiences that God has given me to benefit this church and His Kingdom.

This has been a challenging opportunity that is diverse in nature, never boring but one that I’m thankful to have. My contribution to this annual church report will reflect the diverse nature of how God is at work here at Gordon and to celebrate the tremendous things that God has done in the past year in various parts of this ministry.

As your chief servant leader, I believe that it is my job to set high standards for our staff team. We are certainly blessed to have the team we currently have. It is fun to work with people who share a passion for Jesus, trust in one another and pursue excellence in all they do. This is the team we are building at Gordon – the team that I get to be a part of – all of whom I am thankful for. In September, we were able to add full-time to our team Minister Keith Caldwell. Minister Caldwell serves as an SBC-21 (Strengthening the Black Church for the 21st Century) Intern. This internship fills a key position on our team as Keith, as we respectfully refer to him, seeks to provide leadership in leading/developing our Brother’s Keeper Ministry at Gordon. Keith’s internship also allows for his spear heading a renewed commitment to Gordon in connecting with the community and participating in worship on Sundays.

The Apostle Paul reminds us: “For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ … Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it” (1 Corinthians 12:12, 27). And long before Christ came, the prophet Isaiah reminded us that God “gives power to the faint and strengthens the powerless” (Isaiah 40:29). Trust God, Gordon, and do the ministry which God has entrusted to us.
